could somebody please advice me

by cazzyp, Oct 02, 2009 11:54AM
hi my little boy is 3 yrs nearly 4.
for the last year and a half i have noticed certain behaviour of his i thought was strange.
let me explain. whe  he runs he flaps his arms, he still walks a lot on his tiptoes,
he is totally obsessed with trucks and tractors, when he is talking he constantly repeats himself
he sometimes comes across deaf , now i know all children have selective hearing but i dont think
he does this intentionaly. he talks a lot of jibberish as if he has his own languge.he is terrified of loud noises , like a drill or hairdryer etc he freaks out and runs to his room.and if he is outside he panics and hides. he also repeats the television and dvds he know nearly all the words
to some of the disney films. he is very clever in other ways he knows his abc, his numbers up too twenty, his shapes
his colours and his left from his right. when he is in company to other children he runs up to them  and makes really
weird faces up close to them and runs around screaming. could someone please give me advice
as im not sure what to do i dont want to take his to a specialist if he is fine , but i guess its mothers intuition i feel
there might be a problem. thanks for taking the time to read this plz reply. i tryed the online autism test and he scored
119 which says moderate pdd, now im scared.

Don't be scared. If he has it, the diagnosis won't change that, except you will be aware of it. It sounds like you are concerned and getting him evaluated right away would be good to do and find out. If he does turn out to have PDD NOS, it isn't the end of the world.

Sounds like does have aensory processing issues. Loud noises bother me too. Imagine having two speakers put up to full volume up to your ears. It's quite painful. That's what things like vacuum cleaners, hair driers, blenders, and lawn mowers sound to me. If I have to do any of those tasks I wear ear plugs or something to muffle out that noise.

On a side note I took that online PDD test a while ago, just for the lolz to see where it would place me. I came out in the moderate-severe range.

And on another side note, I learned from volunteering at a greenhouse that lawn mowers and stuff that loud can possibly lead to hearing loss. (that's supposedly why they test the hearing of all hired gardeners/workers who do those things on a yearly basis.) So maybe I'm not that awkward/far off for demanding I protect my ears.
