very bad smell from nasal passage

Hi Doc or Docs,

My question is this:  about a week ago I was cleaning my gun (yes it is legal) with a new solvent.  After I finished and went to bed my head started to hurt.  When i woke up the next day my nose was a plugged up.  Now on the next day I started to get REAL bad pain in my face, cheeks etc.  The most confusing part was that when I breathed through my nose there was (and still is) a HORRIBLE smell that comes up and is very strong!!  Last thing, my mucous is a bit dark as well.

So can that be because i had an allergy to the solvent or what else could it be?

Thanks so much for your help

Marc

This could be the result of an allergy to the gun-cleaning solvent but it is more likely to be a tissue irritant effect of a substance used without proper ventilation.  You should read the label, for the names of potentially toxic materials; then call your local state department of health, report your exposure and request their recommendations regarding further diagnostic work and, if indicated, treatment.
