silicone allergy?

About 6 months ago I had punctal plugs placed to occlude my punti as I suffer from dry eye following eye surgery.  I've suffered from a chronic irritation, inflammation of the eye that has stumped the three opthalmologists I've seen.  I'm told that there is no signs of infection, occular surface is good with minimal dryness, small sign of allergy, and evidence of eye irritation.  I am wondering if the silicone plugs could be causing the inflammation from an allergic process.

There are reports of punctal plugs becoming infected.  There also are reports of granulomatous inflammation, which is a reaction to an irritant, such as silicone.  However, there is strong evidence against silicone being an allergic substance.
