My 2 year old---autism?

Let me tell you a little about my son: He's 33 months old. He started speaking at a very young age and he was walking at a young age. He loves to play pretty much anything he can with me (his dad) and his mom. He gets frustrated when he tries to play the Wii and will sometimes get angry when he cant figure it out. He responds to his name, he is extremely affectionate (he loves his hugs and kisses), he plays great with his cousins and other kids, he has an amazing memory and is good at recalling names of characters he sees on tv, and he is good at counting and saying his ABC's.
A friend of the family who has a 16 year old son diagnosed with Aspergers think that my son may be slightly on the scale of autism or aspergers. She said that since he says "Im hungry" repeatedly that is a sign of one of the disorders. She also said that since he gets angry while trying to play the Wii that is another sign. Sometimes if we are at the mall he will get frustrated and start saying "im hungry". She said that is also a sign. At times he will chew on his sleeves. When he is saying "Im hungry" if we give him a snack (even if it's the second or third one between meal times) he will stop saying it. Also if I say "Trystan is hungry?" he will say "Yeah" and then stop saying it for awhile.

Can I please get some feedback on this? It is driving me crazy because my wife is worried about it now that her friend is telling her that she thinks our son has it.

Your son's behaviors sound like they are more related to SPD (sensory processing disorder) the chewing on clothes, the temper and even the use of security words or phrases such as "I'm hungry" in times of distress.  Go to google and do a search for signs of sensory processing disorder.
Also, the main features of autism are

Lack or very little eye contact
Lack of social skills, not able to read social cues such as facial expressions or tone of voice
Rigid routines
Lack of reciprocity (they don't understand back and forth activities such as playing catch)
Stimming behaviours such as flapping hands, spinning, making vocal sounds etc
Feeding difficulties, they avoid certain textures or they only eat limited foods.
Abnormal sleep patterns

If you are concerned about your child's development, please contact your local Early intervention Regional Center for an evaluation.

Good luck!
