bowl and bladder incontinence

My friend's child has ashberger's autism. He is severly over weight and he is incontinent with his bowels and bladder. The mother blames it on the autism. My question is, can a child with ashberger's have an incontinence problem? He's been to specialist and there are no blockages in his bowels or bladder.

Thank you,

Very much so. Many children with autism do not toilet train until very late. I have a 5 year old who is still not 100% trained. Some never train at all but then again some train within the "normal" age range for toilet training. Every child is different and sensory issues often associated with autism can make things much more difficult.

My wife and I have recently taken in a very lovely 13 year old autistic boy who is non verbal and completely bowel and bladder incontinent day and night.  Neither is he able to wash or clean himself towel himself dry, brush his teeth effectively or dress himself unaided.  In other respects he appears fairly "normal".  He can walk run, swim, jump on a trampoline  and ride a bike.He understands what is said to him and has limited signing skills.  The major thing we need help with is how to go about getting him toilet trained.  We are starting our autistic journey from scratch but with a 13 year old adolescent who has never been toilet trained!!!  Any help would be greatly appreciated

by the way lol its aspergers syndrome not ashbergers.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asperger_syndrome

and yes it is very possable for a child or adult with aspergers syndrome to develop incontinence, though it is not so common for it to be a physical cause. Most of the the time it is a psyco symatic / pathalogical cause.

The best you can do in this circumstance is give him a contour pad to put in his underware, this will help to absorb the urine when he wets, it will also help to keep his pants clean when he poops. At the same time it will send him the message that he is not a baby, if you use tampons you can show them to him and explain you use pads to, show him your pads and his pads side by side and explain that adults use pads and your pads are just a diffrent kind of pad to the ones he uses.

As for training him thats a waiting game, he will tell yo in his own time when he is ready.
