My son was diagnosed with hd at 10 days old and after surgeries (2) ie is doing great. He has also been diagnosed with asbergers. Is there now evidence they can be connected? He is 11 years old. Thank you so much
In both Huntington’s disease and Asperger’s syndrome there are alterations in fronto‐striatal regions of the brain. These changes are responsible for the sensorimotor changes seen in these disorders. However, there appears to be no direct link between these two disorders.
However, if there are overlap of symptoms then please discuss this with your son’s treating doctor. Take care!
