ALS / MND fear

Good afternoon,

I am a 32 year old male, sporty (fishing and lawn bowls) My dad suffered with motor neuron for 7 years. He was hospitalised in Feb. 2011 with severe lung infection last year. i was called a 4:30am and rushed to the hospital...very traumatic for me - cold sweat and emotional wreck.

He was in hospital for 3 weeks and finally made it home. He passed in his sleep in Dec 2011 three days after i got married.

Since that day the strangest things have happened to me. I have always been healthy and sporty with no accidents or major injury. I had a full medical done and all is 100% except my cholesterol of 5.5

Every time my phone rang with his number or the home number i thought it was the same news and i totally freaked out every time...nervous wreck to say the least. Since then i have been getting muscle twitches in my calves and arms, am now on Ciplalex 10mg per day for anxiaty..still twitching - no muscle weakness (phycologicaly i think it is weaker sometimes because of the nume/lame/weird feeling. The twitching comes and goes. It was really bad after my dad passed.

In March one evening i woke up a 2am with the most agonising pain i have ever experienced  (left shoulder - deltoid area)it passed after 5 minutes, could not lift my arm the next day, went to a physio for 4 weeks no improvement, went to an osteopath twice and made an amazing difference yet never got back to 100% then went to the world angling champs in Italy no problem, got back to catch shark and did a few pushups, shoulder buggered (sore in front, then at the back, then top of the chest - it is in a differant shoulder area).

X-rays showed a type 2 acromion.

Had the shoulder scoped no damage and after an examination was diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome got a Botox injection in the scalene muscles, 10 days later i could cast 100% (max power) for the first time in 3 months (to painful previously). Working on the TOS with the biokinetic guy...burns after exercise. not sure adout the diagnosis. ring finger and small finger are numbish. My are is foreign to me am awared of it all the time. My  left arm falls asleep regulaly have to through it of the bed with the right arm, then as i feel the blood flowwing into it i can move it again.

In July i was sitting in the bus on the way home and had the most painful burning sensation in my calf, lasted 60s until i clicked my hip, sense then pain in the but then below the knee(top of calf) went to every one, manipulations all said pinched nerve / bulging disc... it improved 3 months later (overnight ) after 3 sessions with a new physio, it hurts every time i get up from a seated position. sharp stabbing pain.

I have been anxious about having Motor neuron disease and cant get it out of my head, are any of these related to the disease. If not i can get over it and move on with my life.

Regards
Andrew

Thanks alot for the posts,

I was not sure if an event like my dads could cause such an effect. But it all just felt to coincidental.

Six months after the shoulder episode happened i felt a similar painfull burning pain (very severe) in my calf and it is still there. Both cases are on the left side of my body. Sudden onset with long lasting effects. (they just dont feel like the other side of my body does, as though i am aware of them all teh time.)

The calf pain went into the but, then SI joint then behind the knee and now that is where it has stayed. It is really bad sfter sitting and  better as soon as i walk for a bit.

The shoulder on the other hand is weird. We had our fishing trials this past week and there was no strunght weakness. It is lame today, i can feel it where the color bone enters the neck, in my bicep and my hand feels reel lame. It still bothers me. The fact that it had a sudden onset, i can still type and that there is no weakness helps me believe that it is not MND.

I am goin to an osteopath for Thoracic outlet treatment but i am not sure what she is supposed to be doing. She said i have alot of scar tissue on the outside of the bicep, a rock hard patch. The are gets really tired when i do overhead avtivities.

Hey Andrew.
Welcome to the forum.
All your symptoms seem to have started since your dad's passing.
I understand that this is a "medical" forum, however, there's an underlying
constitutional reason responsible for all this, having very little to do with
nerve compression issues and a lot more to do with overarching Mental, Emotional and Spiritual aspects.
My feeling is that your life will return to"normal" only when the imbalances get corrected.
Are there any Energy Spiritual Psychotherapists in your area?
If not, then seek a reputable Regression Therapist or Hypnotherapist to help you with this. And should you need more details, let me know.
Blessings,
Niko

Hi!
A motor neuron disease is easy to elicit for any neurologist. He has to simply conduct a battery of neurological examinations and look for signs of upper (muscle weakness, decreased motor control, inability to perform fine movements, increased spinal reflexes, and positive Babinski sign—great toe going up) or lower motor neuron (muscle weakness, abnormal EMG etc) disease. Other possibilities could be fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, severe anemia, spinal nerve compression high up in the cervical spine, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritic changes of the vertebrae, calcium deficiency, low Vit D, electrolyte disturbance, peripheral neuropathy due to diabetes or hypothyroidism or due to bad posture. Lyme and lupus are the other possibilities.
Since I cannot examine you and know other related conditions you may be having, nor is a detailed history possible on net, I have listed the various possibilities that should be looked into. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care!
