HLA-B27

Does anyone know if you HAVE to be HLA-B27 positve to have ankylosing spondylitis?  I have degenerative sclerosis in the SI joints, pain and stiffness especially in the am or after inactivity, and during night, fatique, chronic anemia, pain at about every joint where the tendons are, plus a whole bunch of other symptoms.  However, I am not positive to HLA-B27.  Thanks for the input.  Karen

You don't have to be  HLA-B27 positive to get the AS diagnosis, but it is more likely. Not all people with AS have HLA-B27 though--and not all people with HLA-B27 have AS.
