Dear Dr. Nicolson, Hope you could direct me in the right direction please.
I understand you must be extremely busy, but I am at my wits end, i live in Hobart Tasmania, and there is no up to date practitioner here.
I have been slowly getting worse over 15 years, and I'm so sick of being sick.
The Specialist has done a few tests, and all agree that there is something not right however are unwilling to do further investigation.
I even had one doctor tell me that I was just fat and depressed, and to go and lose weight (no wonder I'm depressed).
I have been told it must be - fybermalga, depression, arthritis, cushings.?
All my tests come back with red highs and lows, but doctors keep saying that it must be normal for me? Im sorry but i feel so sick!
Outlines of my main symptoms are:
I am 50 years old.
Weight gain around stomach and face ( used to be a size 8, now am a size 20 top and size 10 in jeans !, also have a small Buffalo hump )
Have had 2 urine tests, Cortisol is going up however still in "normal" range, thus the doctor said i don't have Cushings.
Aching joints, mostly wrists and hands,(i feel i need to put pressure on them to stop the pain) Doctor has me on Panidine forte 4-6 a day, which has helped.
Lost strength in my hands, arms and legs.
Headaches every day, occasional migraines.
Stomach pain every day. And stomach is as hard as a drum(someday I feel if I'm going to bust) also have sharp pains, as if somebody is sticking a Knife in, I tend to have IBM occasionally, but celiac has been ruled out, and I'm on a really healthy diet (as I'm trying to lose weight, with no avail)
The GP doesn’t believe me, as he said if I was eating what I’ve told him that I should be losing weight, not putting it on!
Skin eruptions that take over 12 months to heal and leave big white or brown scars ( legs, arms and under breasts, the one under my breast has been growing)have had a swab, no infection or fungal present.
My most worrying is my memory, I use to have a high profile job, however i am back trying to study and I'm failing as i have no short term memory and have so much trouble articulating words, (know what I want to say but can’t pronounce or find the words) Doctor keep telling me its my age, but this is not normal for me!
Extreme fatigue, but I don’t have sleep apenya.
My latest blood test are: My recent blood test are
haemoglobin 133 (115-165)
hct 0.41(0.35-0.47)
mcv 86(80-100)
white cell 15.8 H (4.0-11.0)
neutrophils 10.4 H (2.0-7.5)
lymphocytes 3.3(1.0-4.0)
monocytes 1.3 H (0.2-1.0)
eosinophils 0.7 H (<0.5)
basaphils <0.1 (<0.3)
platelets 379 (150-400) Last week they where 396
Comments
the red cells generally appear normochromic, normocytic. Occasional reactive lymphocytes are noted. The Gp didn't seem concern and said he may do another test in a month or so.
Thank you for your time, and I really hope to hear from you soon.
I noticed there isn't a vitamin D3 level in your blood work either. Can you get some over the counter D3? It is extremely helpful to make the immune system function better. It is also cheap here in the US. It takes some time to build up enough to help.
I take 10,000 IU a day as suggested by my Doc. with 2 blood tests a year to keep me in the 50 -70mgl range. For more info on D go to vitamindcouncil.org
Hopefully some else in the community has some helpful ideas. My daughter spent 16 years in misery undiagnosed until we found out she had a immune deficiency disease.
Good luck
