no diagnosis

Hi. Quick list of symptoms: tingling and numbness in my hands, left foot, and face. My upper lip is numb now, its been numb for a month. My hands fall asleep at night while I'm asleep and wake me up. My hands hurt during the day. I've had a rash two different times, now I just have the itching that comes and goes but no rash (one time the rash was hot to the touch and did not itch, the other time was very itchy and I had hives for a month and after the hives just a rash. I took prednisone for several months) Fatigue that is usual for me. My body gets super hot to the touch but does not really effect me i.e. I don't feel hot. The first episode my eyes did weird things like halos and a burst of lights and I swear they have never been quite the same since. I have had three major episodes over several years. I have had two MRI's and autoimmune blood work done, plus all of the allergy testing possible. No results at all. One doctor said it must be lyme disease but my current doctor says its not and it's just stress, except the rash. The allergist says possibly lupus. Everyone has said lets check for ms, but then rule it out. No clue but would like answers just so I can be proactive. Thanks for any thoughts.

HI meggy1972.

bluebritt is probably right for that part (raynaud's), however, opinions or suspicions, if not pursued further are just that.
Nothing that can be used as far as treatment goes.

I personally like to see doctor's being more thorough.

When and if I suspect Lupus for example, there are 11 specific diagnostic criteria, out of which the patient must have at least 4, either presently or some time in the past. A Rheumatologist is the specialist for Lupus.

Chronic Lyme Disease (and it's co-infections) is notoriously difficult to diagnose and as difficult to treat effectively.
Too many false negatives and most doctors either don't know enough
or are bound by IDSA protocols. (very political)

Lyme Literate Medical Doctors (LLMDs) are probably your best option
and IGeneX Labs the golden standard for Lyme's and co-infections.

Chronic stress, internal or external, hidden or not WILL result in disease
processes, very likely starting with adrenal issues.
Unfortunately, Endocrinologists will not help you, unless you reach an adrenal crisis level.
A functional medicine doctor or ND, trained in this field, will be able to help.

Other things to look out for are:
--Low thyroid function. Conventional testing is flawed. Need free T3, Free T4 and Reverse T3 for accurate indication of cellular thyroid function.

--Deficiencies such as B12 (must be over 500pg/ml, as lower levels are often associated with neurological issues), D3, magnesium tissue levels, iron/ferritin (low thyroid function), cortisol (re: prolonged hypo-adrenal state)

--Gluten sensitivity . Look into Cyrex Labs for details in Gliadin testing.
They test 12 forms-not just the alpha ordered by most doctors- of gliadins regarding gluten intolerance (not necessarily digestive).
Now they can also test which part of the body is affected.

If you need any details let me know, however, please note that my comments are not intended to replace medical advice.

Best wishes.
Niko

Please tell me why your vitamin D deficiency was not corrected?
Did you have any particular issues with absorption perhaps, which was not investigated?

Here's some information on this that might help:

Problems with absorption, assimilation, resistance to vitamin D.

--General Inflammation and G/I inflammation(Very common with low thyroid sufferers) or Leaky Gut Syndrome.
--Low fat diet or issues with fat digestion also relating to not enough cholesterol for hormonal AND vitamin D synthesis ( vit D is fat soluble)
-- Obesity
--some drugs
--high cortisol
-- Vitamin D Receptor (VDR) gene mutation  ( genetic /autoimmune) or decreased VDR expression, common with Hashimoto's sufferers also.
In this case need increased levels of D, above and beyond normal serum levels, for optimum function.

Also did you know that deficiency in vitamin D leads to vitamin B12 and B-complex as low vitamin D can affect the G/I system and its ability to absorb and assimilate certain nutrients and vitamins?

The stress which may concern you is the internal hidden stress, which you
are probably not aware of!
If you need more details on this topic let me know.

What took place after your LLMD determined you had Lyme's disease?
Was the testing done by IGeneX Labs and do you have a copy of the results?
At any rate, you should have been offered a comprehensive long term treatment for Lyme's.

For starters, if I were you I would rule out or correct the easy ones first.

a. Low thyroid. Do Doctor Barne's Basal Temperature Test.
Follow precisely the easy online instructions.
b. Correct the deficiencies in B12, B-complex and D3.
Try sublingual drops with 5000mcg B12 as Methylocobalamin & 5000UI D3
daily. If not increased within 3 months, look into the possibility of other existing absorption issues I mentioned above.
c. Do a gluten & dairy elimination diet for a few weeks. Tough to do, but well worth it, if it resolves serious health concerns. These 2 groups are the ones
involved in most food sensitivity issues.

Take care.
Niko

Thank you so much for your help. I have been told I have Raynaud's. I have been Vit. D deficient for years but not until recently became B12 deficient as well. I have been taking supplements for both for about 6 months now but have not had levels re-tested. Three women in my family suffer from low thyroid but I always test ok when my thyroid is checked. I did see an LLMD in NY two years ago when this all began. He determined that I did have Lyme Disease but no co-infections. My GP then as well as my new GP now say only one or two markers for Lyme do not make it Lyme, and have both been adamant that I do not have Lyme??? Now each morning I wake up and my upper lip is swollen as well as numb. Maybe this is unrelated all together, who knows. My biggest concern is how my hands and feet fall asleep and hurt. It is the tops of my hands that hurt and from what I have read does not seem to be Raynaud's. I do not want to manifest a disease. I live a relatively healthy life style. I am just frustrated with doctors throwing around scary words repeatedly like MS and Lupus only to come back to me with no answers on some issues, such as my breaking out in hives for four months, and chalking up the rest of my ongoing or repeating issues as stress. If it is stress I really need to learn more about stress because I am a peaceful, meditating, and full of wonder, happy person. Thank you again for your time. I felt you understood.

Thank you so much for your help. I will go back and double check to see if my mri of the spine would have caught spinal stinosis and do some further research. Thank you.

I'm sorry I messed up. As you can see I thought I clicked to answer a different post. I'm sorry about that. I was told I had Raynauds a few years ago when this all began. I will research it further and see if it could be connected to my other symptoms. Thank you so much for your help.

Hi Karengraf, Thank you so much. I will check into this. My first thought is I would think this would have been caught on my mri of the spine, but I will double check. Thank you for your help.

You may also want to rule out spinal stinosis. my husband had that with most of those symptoms, did not know until he had an accident and it was discovered.

You should look into raynaud's syndrome for your hands. my mother in law has it and it can cause rashes on the hands especially in temp changes as well as numbness and tingling.
