swollen retinas and colitis interlinked?

swollen retinas and colitis interlinked?

I am 21 years old and for the past 6 years I have been dealing with a medical mystery, with my eyes.Over the years we have ruled out anything neurological and spinal, have came to establish that this disorder is only dealing with with my retinas swelling  and leaving floaters in my eye, however they have never come to establish why this happens. About a year ago, i was diagnosed  with colitis, the swelling on the lower intestine. So never understanding why I get all of these problems today i went to my retina specialist because i still can't see because of my retinas and he made a mention that my eyes and colitis may be interlinked, by an autoimmune disorder, but he commented that if that's the case he couldn't help me, and that my general doctor would have to handle the situation, however my primary care doctor is really just a prescription doctor he's not really the type to figure stuff out, IE:. my colitis he thought i was just nervous and wrote me off for 4 months until i asked him to transfer me to a specialist. My question is who do i ask him to transfer me to, what kind of doctor do i go see? And does this sound like something that very well could be autoimmune, and if this is autoimmune is there away to treat it? Because i was on steroid injections but they recently have failed to work. Any information would be greatly appreciated, im at the end of my rope, i just want to see again.

Often times, Colitis can be the first sign of a problem with the auto immune system. Yes, the problems with your eyes and Colon could be interlinked. Get a referral immediately to a Rheumatalogist. The most prominent auto immune diseases that can affect the digestive tract and the eyes is Lupus(SLE) and Multiple Sclerosis(MS). Of course, I'm sure there are probably many other auto immune diseases that also present with your symptoms. Research the two above diseases and see if you have any of the other symptoms on their lists. I hope you find your answers. Oh, and find another family doctor. There's nothing worse than a doctor who has no interest in finding the answers you seek to your medical problems. Also I wanted to mention that with you presenting with Colitis at such a young age you may need to have your Gallbladder checked to see if it's malfunctioning. If the Gallbladder is releasing too much bile it can scorch your colon. I wish good luck and God's richest blessings.
