Makes sense what you said. I just had a D&C last Friday and my family and the hospital gave me different times as to when to start ttc again. I don't know if I had a suction or not. I'm suppose to meet my family doctor in two weeks for a follow up. Should I ask my doctor or should I call my hospital to find out if they used suction or not?

you're right lilsissy03. I waited 6 months in between my first MC and second MC to get prego and I still lost the baby....so that's all horse crap to me! I'm over the wasted time! Emotional reasons are the only valid reasons to wait. It took almost 9 weeks to get AF but I'm testing this month to see if I'm even ovulating....either way here we go again!

My mc/d&c was 8/12/10 (suction). My doctor said that it was okay once I stopped bleeding (5 days later). I did wait for my levels to be @ zero but that was only 10 days post m/c. We resumed 'romantic activities' 11 days post d&c. 9/16/10 was 5 wks post d&c and either my AF returned as pink & brown spotting (only when I wipe) for only 3 days w/no cramps or it was IB (implantation bleeding) so now we are playing the waiting game to test.

It seems to be a consensus that most docs say to wait A) for emotional reasons or B) to date the pregnancy. I think technology provides us a pretty accurate gestational date via u/s & I know I won't get pregnant if I can't... so I wouldn't say I'm trying but I'm not preventing & I'm hopeful ; )

I m/c & had a d&c on July 9th 2009, got my first AF on August 12th. We were going to wait about four  to six months for emotional reasons but later decided to start trying after my second AF in September. The OB told me to wait at least until my first AF before trying, but recommended 3-6 months for emotional reasons.
I finally got preggers after six cycles in February.

I miscarried at the beginning of April this year.  I would have started IVF this month but had to do the clomid challenge test and have to wait to August to begin.  So I guess that is 4 months total.  Good luck to you and SSBD!

My oown experience after d&c at 9 weeks was getting pregnant right after my period cam back. I was 5 half weeks into the next pregnancy and started bleeding. I went in and even though my dr said we could try whenever we were ready...the nurse practitioner who saw me when I was bleeding said it is better to wait a couple months after d&c to build up the lining.we waited till sfter I got my 3rd period and tried again. I am now 15 weeks along..

I'm sooo thankful for all of the posts....so so appreciative!!! My friend on this site and I both had our D&C's last Dec. around the same time and her and her hubby bd'd almost everyday from 1 week after the D&C on and she's now like 6 months prego! I on the other hand only bd'd a couple times but I really don't think I ovulated that month (which I read is common) and obviously didn't get prego lol. We tried the next month with no luck either, then we waiting until May and got prego our first try only bding 2 times around the week I think I o'd. I hope we get lucky like that again!

drago1973- You're soo right. The Dr. who told me 3 cycles is actually my Dr.s partner. My Dr. and his wife had 2 back to back MC's and then went on having 2 healthy babies. I think that's why he was qucik to send me for testing. I trust him without a doubt and he told me as well the if the lining isn't ready the egg won't stick, that my body won't fall prego until it's ready, but that doesn't mean we have to wait to start trying.

cocacolapanda- There are quite a few women who got prego right after a D&C and went full term, my thing is we waited 5 months after my last D&C before getting prego and still miscarried. So I guess sometimes your dam*** if you do dam*** if you don't right? Hubby and I are over all the wasted time for nothing you know? I really hope my follow up appt. my blood results come back good so we don't have to wait too long! Oh and the last time I had a D&C 2 weeks after my levels were completely down. Some people say take a prego test before you start trying to make sure it's not a false pos. I guess that makes sendse right?

Steph b- thanks so much for the sweet words!! I hope we get prego quick too!! Even if I mc again at least we're upping our chances of getting 1 good sticky baby eventually!

It's confusing when dr's can't even agree on when to start trying after a D&C or miscarriage.  I asked 2 different dr's and a midwife and my midwife was the only one who could tell me why medically to wait any ammount of time.  During a D&C they scrape out the lining pretty good, so if you do get pregnant they say your chances of another miscarriage are higher because the baby might not attach to the wall as there isn't much to attach to.  I have heard of a few women who got pregnant right after a D&C and did not have another miscarriage, so I'm pretty sure it depends on how much they scrape out (My dr said he scraped a lot of lining out).  I also heard someone else saying they had a D&C suction where they didn't scrape out the lining at all.  Also, waiting one cycle helps with dating and if they missed something you could *think* your pregnant again when the hormones just haven't left your system yet.

Also, the dr's when I asked why they basically just said to wait 3 cycles due to emotional reasions.

I do agree with what all Sandi says, although if something seems odd or they can't answer all your questions fully then seek out other dr's to see what they say.  Your dr is not always 100% correct, they typically have more knowledge then you but even an OB can specialize in different areas and know more about a specific subject then another OB.

Hello Hudsy,

It's interesting reading all these posts.  I had my D&C on 7th June, and my ER doctor along with my OB and family doctor told me I didn't have to wait.  They told me my body would conceive when it was ready to.  And I do believe that they are right.  I personally figured that it would be beneficial to wait at least one cycle, but I never stopped trying.  I did have my first period on the 4th of July. and I am now currently on my second positive OPK as of today, and I am hoping that I do conceive.  My family (parents and older cousins) tends to be very old school in that I should wait for my body to recuperate - they think I should wait about 6 months....  But, I think that as my doctor indicated only you yourself will know when a) you are mentally ready to start trying again, and b) when you physically are ready to.  And for me personally, being able to try again was part of my healing from my loss.

I hope that you do what feels right for you.  Some doctors do not know the pain associated with loss, they are often unsympathetic only because they deal with it in the masses.  The interesting and important thing to note is, MANY MANY women healthy and not, have had losses and conceived the very next cycle, AND had perfectly normal pregnancies as a result.

So, while doctors seem to be in dispute about when one should try again, or how long one should wait, if there really were a suggested time, then all these mothers who conceived immediately after would be statistical anomalies - when in fact they are not.

I wish you the best, and all the baby dust there is.

In addition to anything I have mentioned, please keep in mind, that while I or others may have extensive knowledge in many areas, you should always seek professional medical advice from your own physician, as it pertains to medical conditions or concerns.

Good luck, and if you have any other questions that I can help you with, please feel free to message me directly.

Sincerely,
Sandi (Dragon1973)

Hi Hudsy, sorry you are going through this. My Dr also told me to wait 3 cycles, however we couldn't. I fely i need to get pregnant ASAP. I only waiting one cycle after my D&C. I had miscarrige and bled for six weeks until they did D&C. i bled for about three weeks after D&C then got my period about eight weeks after that. So we began trying then coz we'd waited so long for AF to return.

Good luck with TTC again xo

Thanks everyone! My last D&C I was almost 12 weeks, AF came I think 5 weeks later. One Dr. told me 3 cycles but my Dr. said to wait until we're emotionally ready. We definitely will not be waiting 3 cycles...They took 13 vials of blood for all sorts of testing and I'll get those results when I have my D&C follow up, so depending on that I plan to start trying right after. Thanks so much for everyone's answers!!

I am so sorry for your loss...I know how you are feeling.

After my m/c and emergency d&c in February it took almost 10 weeks for af to return, but i was 12 weeks pregnant ... We then did our second FET in June and i lost that pregnancy at 6 weeks. I just had a wierd feeling and decided to take a hpt which came out negative after the RE confirmed the pregnancy. I went for a beta the next day (July 3) which came back as less than 1. I stopped taking my med the next day (july 4) and AF started 24 hours later (july 6th was day 1). I am currently trying again with some of the meds to see if maybe a miracle can happen and i will concieve somewhat naturally. It depends on when you feel ready, my RE said as long as levels are at 0 and all tissue is gone you can start again.
