Nerve problems

My mom bent down one day and couldnt get up properly, since then she has pain on her butt as well as coming the front of her stomach down thru her groin along her inner leg and in her knee.
Her doctor said its not the sciatic nerve maybe a different one, she was taking voltarin but it doesnt work really well, she recently had an episode where her hands went numb and her body went stiff and we had to rush her to the hospital. They just said it was from the pain.
What could this be?

The back and leg pain could certainly be from a pinched nerve in the spine. I would recommend that if the pain has not gone away in a week that an MRI of the lumbar spine should be done.
As for the stiff body and numb hands this could be a reaction to the pain. However if these problems persist she needs to have a specialist evaluate her.

My mom  was taken to another island to do an MRI scan, it was determined that she had 3 "slipped" discs. Two were bad one wasnt so bad. They recommended consistant therapy and possibly surgery in about 3 months if there are no changes in her condition. She was given morphine on the day when her hands went numb, she currently is still experiancing severe pain in spasms. What other recommendations would you suggest to alleviate the need for surgery? How often should she schedule the therapy? I ask this because where we live it is very difficult to get therapy sessions within 3 weeks of each other, should she get the therapy more frequently?

Would you explain the stiff body and hand thing as a reaction to the pain please?

It could be her sacroiliac joints and muscle strain. If your Mom has weak ab muscles she could have had a shift happen in the pelvic girdle. Strengthen the ab muscles, hold the front of the pelvis up goes a long way with making this better. Don't jump into a fusion on the L5 S1 if there is minor herniation or DDD. Muscles can do the job of keeping the spine intact if you're really intent on avoiding surgery and making it the last resort.
