Hello, I had my fusion April 05' L3,L4,L5,S1. X-rays show plate, nuts and bolts all in place. Pain never eased. August 05' started to pain clinic and go each month. I was on the kadien for a month but it was like taking tylenol for me. I had to quit work Dec.23, 2005 & still no pain free days. I hate to tell you but the couch is the WORST place you could lay. The bed would be better. I wish you the best. Soft hugs & Prayers.

Had back surgery 2 times. Fusion L-1 L-5 and it failed miserably. 2nd operation was 13 hours long and this as done as fusion with instrumentation. Forget heating pads and Motrin or pain meds. They don't work. WALK WALK WALK and after that walk some more. I play golf. Finding the right neurosurgeon is critical. There are bad mechanics and doctors as well. I have no facet joints at all 5 levels and a ton of scar tissue from getting sliced and dice twice, so the muscles will fatigue quickly. I use and ice pack for pain. In a span of 13 years I have had one series of trigger point injections and was on Prednisone for 2 weeks. That's it. I also shoot in low 80's!
I can relate. I had lumbar fusion at L1-L2 just over 1 year ago. Mine never fused and I have been in worse pain ever sense. My surgeon kept telling me it will get better and I can go back to work. I cannot even get out of bed some days much less work. Needless to say I lost my job. I am on a numerous amount of medications just to try to function. I also have disc bulging on 3 other disc's. One going into my nerve. Two other neuro surgeons say they will not do surgery on me and there is nothing else that can be done but manage the pain. I can only pray and take one day at a time. God Bless.
