Anterior Cervical discectomy and Fusion

Hello everyone. I'm up late in pain and cant sleep. I had surgery on 12-13-07. I came home on 12-14-07. Wow its crazy how they shoot you out of the hospital after this surgery. I was wondering if anyone has had this surgery done and would share some info with me. My doc removed C5-6 and C6-7 and put in a titainium support with screws. I was in so much pain before sugery. Well a day after and Im at home, I cant eat, swallow or sleep! Im also having problems getting up from sitting and much so from laying down. My left index finger is also numb. Im really feeling bummed right now. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, I had this surgery 4 weeks ago. Sorry to hear your not feeling well yet. I have had an very good recovery... so I don't want to make you feel bad..?:0)

I had C4/5-5/6 - with one disc replacement - and 3 vertebrae fused. Many bone spurs removed.

It took several days for the swallowing to stop aching or hurting... and occaisionally some food would get stuck - not to the point of choking etc... just needed an extra sip of water to move it along.

I never like taking Rx pain meds - and this was the first surgery that I religiously took them as prescribed and it really really helped. So be sure to use them! And use muscle relaxers- if the md didn't prescribe them, ask him/her to give you one - this helped me alot with tension and helped me sleep throught the night... as they knock me out.

I have one "angry" nerve that is bothering me a bit - but nothing compared to the pain and suffering before surgery. I have been suffering with neck pain, arm pain and numbess, then weakness over a period of 14 years.

I've had some throbbing in my shoulders and uppers arms - but overall much improved!
