Back/neck pain after car accident only after standing

Hi all!

I'm not sure if this is he correct forum for this question, but here goes!

I was involved in a car accident about 2 months ago.  Since then I have had severe neck and back pain which has not been helped by anything I've tried.  I've done:  physical therapy, seen a chiropractor, taken 4 differed muscle relaxers (flexaril 5 and 10mg, skelaxin, robaxin, and one other that I can't remember), taken 3 different NSAIDS (ibuprofen, naproxen, and mobic), a steroid injection, and taken more percocets than I can count.

The pain only occurs after I put weight  on my spine, when I wake up in the morning I feel fantastic, no pain at all.  But once I stand up and put weight on my spine, the pain starts.  I don't even have to be standing for long, even if I just get up to use the restroom and lay right back down the pain starts.

None of my doctors can figure out what is going on.  I've had a CT, MRI, and several rounds of x-rays and the docs say everything looks fine.  I've seen 3 different doctors; my family physician, a spinal specialist, and the chiropractor.

Anyone experience anything similar?  What did the doctors say was the cause?  What treatments did you have and we're they successful or are you still dealing with the pain?

I've been off work since the accident and I really need to get back to working.  Not to mention I'm getting really frustrated having this near constant pain for the last 2 months.  Any advice or suggestions will be very much appreciated!

Yes, it is a whiplash injury.  The spinal specialist is a PA for a spinal surgeon, I see the surgeon who oversees her practice this week.  I'm not really sure why though, everyone so far has said that they didn't see anything which needs surgical intervention and I certainly don't want anyone cutting on my neck unless it's absolutely positively necessary.

I have an appointment with a pain management clinic, but not until the end of May.  The offices are affiliated, so I'm going to ask if the surgeon can call over and see if they can't get me moved up.

I'm just getting really frustrated with all of this, the pain meds they're prescribing aren't helping at all and I'm getting sick of not being able to do anything.

Mousey, I sounds as if your doctors are in over there head when it comes to treating pain.

Is this a whiplash injury?

Often the only "spine specialist" doctors use for referral is a surgeon and they generally know only one way to treat -- with a scalpel.

Ask for a referral to an interventional pain management specialist or clinic, where hopefully you'll find an accurate diagnosis and other options for pain treatment.

The pain is so severe at times that all I can do is curl into a ball and cry.  At my last doctors appointment they were considering sending me to the ER because my blood pressure was so high because I was in so much pain.  The percocets aren't touching the pain anymore and I can't get in to a pain clinic until the end of May.

Any thought will be very much appreciated!
