Dealing with MD's and chronic pain

Hi I am Jody
I am wondering if anyone has any advice on how to handle being a ping pong ball in the medical community. I had surgery in August, developed a senoma, another slipped disc and chronic pain but no one wants to be responsible for pain mgmt. Even the Pain clinic asked why I was there since I already had surgery! Because I was so fustrated by being basically told the pain was all in my head while I was discussing some of the issues and obstacles I am having even getting tylenol 3 I have been dismissed as being too anxious, depressed not that being told I am crazy doesn't make me feel that way. I went to my primary MD who is supposed to prescribe according to the pain clinic, and was told that the pain clinic said I was being detoxed off an addiction when it was her who prescribed the methadone and the neurologist who was simply a first available(now know why he was available) said I am not in pain. End result last hospitalization ended Sept with scar tissue wrapped around my s-1 nerve but not displaced a 7.5 cm senoma not drained a herniated disc that may or may not be touching a nerve and and a bulging disc and guess what TOO BAD!!!! TRY TYLENOL!  Help I feel like I am going crazy!

Thank you any one who has any suggestions on what to do. Mind you I have never asked for any medication from my Doctor until this and I asked for tylenol 3.

Thank you again

Feeling Betrayed!

Jody,

For nearly three years I've been seeing two different pain management doctors and my family doctor. Until this week I've never had a problem getting the hydrocodone and Soma I need for my pain, and I don't ask for it much. My facet injections from one of the PM doctors and other alternative treatments I get from the other PM usually keep me pain free for 4-6 months. I only need the pain medications when the effects of the treatments wear off and I'm waiting for the next treatment. Their schedules are getting harder and harder to fit in appointments, so the pain meds are the only way I can function until the procedeures. I've tried to get the three doctors to talk to each other so they can be assured that I'm not trying to get drugs from each of them, but they won't do that for some reason. My family doctor said if i keep asking for thedrugs that I'll need to see an orthopedic surgeon. I've been very careful not to take a chance on addiction, but they apparently are more concerned about illegal selling of prescription drugs or addiction than they are about treating pain. You'll see hundreds of postings in these forums about this. You might try finding new PM doctors, but tell them you are looking for new doctors because the old ones were not listening to your concerns, not that they won't give you the medications you need. Be honest with them, but be careful how you phrase things. There are other treatments than medications and they may want to try them. Let them decide to give you medications or you may sound too anxious. Good luck!
