Did your discectomy work?

Hi All, Im new to the community. My name is Amy. On August 1, 2007 I had a discetomy and fusion of the C5-6. Since the surgery, I feel NO improvement. As a matter of fact I feel worse. At first, my left hand was numb and I had severe pain from my neck through my left arm, with mild numbness in my right hand. With extreme weakness in my legs and arms. I am also fatigued. Now I cannt feel either hand my feet keep tingling and my knees keep giving out. My orthohad me get another MRi last week and said the surgery is healing great, but hold on a sec let me go get the written report. His receptionist comes back a min later and says you can go.And handed me a copy of the report. I thought Dr.'s were supposed to explain these reports to you. Especially when there are terms like early desiccation is seen or forminal narrowing seen. I feel like im not being taken seriously and I keep getting the run around. I am exhausted and in pain, does anyone have some advice or similar story. Thank You

yeah now i find out i should have chosen a neurosurgeon instead of a orthopedic doc. i honestly thought that i was seeing the right kind of doc but since my surgery have talked to people and found out that was the wrong kind of doc. As long as i take my lyrica i do a lot better. I just dont wont to have to take this my whole life because it has some side effects i dont like but i guess that they are better than living in pain. thanks for the info i just i had research this more BEFORE  my surgery.

Hi, I also had a discetomy L4-5 nov. 1 2007. I have had very bad results since my surgery. I was in so much pain 2 weeks after my surgery i thought i was going to die! my doc did another mri 2 weeks after the surgery to see if i had reherniated my disc he said that there was some herniation there but it wasnt real bad. It felt bad to me. He scheduled me for another surgery at that point to go back in and clean that disk up again. I went back a few days later with some improvement so he cancelled the surgery. I continued to slowly improve.........i thought until a couple of months later. I was once again in terrible pain my leg hurt so bad i couldnt walk, drive i  am 40 years old own my on business i dont have time to lay around but i had no choice i was in sooo much pain. He was just very puzzled that my surgery was not taking my leg pain away. He has me now on 300 mg lyrica twice a day and i do feel it helps i dont feel i have all  my life back but at least i can work and function a little better....but believe me the pain is not gone i just have to baby it. Good luck and i know what you are going through i just hope we dont have to live this way forever.
