Herniated Discs

by pedro_831, Aug 22, 2010 12:52PM
Hello

Im a 21 year old male who recently been diagnosed with lumbar spondylosis with L4-5 disc protusrion and L5-S1 extrusion.   I got this from a car accident back in early May.  The pain isnt always there, it just comes on and off just for like a slight 30 seconds and then goes away.

My MRI says:

At the L4-5, there is a broad disc protrusion eccentric to the right which indents the thecal sac and abuts the traversing right L5 nerve root.  Again, the neural foramina appear patent.

At the L5-S1 level, there is a broad disc extrusion which effaces the anterior epidural fat and nearly abuts the traversing S1 nerve roots.  Marginal osteophyte and facet arthropathy minimally encroach upon the neural foramina.

Some diminution in lumbar lordosis is noted, however, possibly due to muscle spasm.

With that being said can those discs heal completely and let me live without pain?
Will i be able to have sex with no pain? Im fairly young and dont want to be dealing with pain the rest of my life.

Can I still drink alcohol if i have this condition?

Saturated fat, trans fat and simple refined carbohydrates e.g.  Coke, Pepsi, etc. Artificial sweeteners like Aspartame / NutraSweet, excess caffeine. Many more, do a internet search.

Bone spurs are arthritis.Calcium is good and you can look at other supplements if your interested. But just like the rest of this, the best remedy or solution is staying and be active and in good physical condition.

Once your muscles built up where they need to be, there won't really be any need for Physical Therapy as long as you stay in pretty good physical condition and you can do  that with sports and dancing and things like that.

Nobody here's really qualified to tell you whether not you can drink, at least I know I'm not. Have you asked any of the Doctors you've seen.

I was always told by Doctor's that you should let the pain be your guide. If it hurts stop it, or go slower. I would think the dancing would be good for you physically. What are you going to school for?

Yeah I did respond.  I put if marijuana or alcohol affect my condition?

It's tough with me going to college and all. I still want to have a good time like before.

Will I still be able to dance salsa cumbia and merengue music because I love to do all that.
