Hip Dimple / Indentation

Hip Dimple / Indentation

Yesterday I discovered an indentation on the side of my right hip, in between the upper and lower parts of the pelvis, not against bone. The whole indentation is about the size of a large coin. I'm sure it wasn't there 24 hours before I discovered it so must've come on suddenly. The area feels a little numb and last night my corresponding leg felt quite heavy and the knee felt a little numb, still does actually.

To press the indentation there is literally no fat or softness underneath the skin, it literally seems to go straight onto solid, what must be, muscle. I'm size 8 (UK)/ 4 (US), fairly healthy apart from this. For the past couple of months I have been going swimming and doing salsa on a weekly basis, despite the fact that swimming seems to make my right knee hurt. It seems to hurt less when I swim more frequently, but I do breast stroke so this is probably why. I have no pain in the hip as of yet. Any ideas of what this might be?

I have the exact same thing. I wouldn't have written the description any differently.
However, my hip used to pop when I walked and I got it check out. Turns out I have a bunch of things going on (osteoarthritis, leg length discrepancy,  Femoroacetabular impingement syndrome, Bursitis). I am going to physical therapy and although I still have the indent, my hip feels better.
If you have any pain at all I suggest seeing a sports medicine doctor- just to get it checked out.
