L5 and S1 Hurniation

I have just found out by MRI that I have Hurniated Discs in L5 and S1.  With this, it is causing sever pain in the lower back, right leg, and tail bone area.  Could this also have something to do with why it is hard for me to have a bowel movement and I also always testing positive for bladder infections when I don't know I even have one?

I am set up to see a specialist next week.  Hopeing for more answers when I get to see him.

well that certainly is confusing..
the only thing I could add to is as far as I know what is meant by bowel dysfunction is that ur unable to control those muscles anymore and you become incontinent....not constipated....so that makes your problems even more complex.
I have L5S1 herniation also and have some bladder incontinence the constipation has been all my life and not to do with the herniation...and has gotten worse only because of the strong pain meds I am on.
Hope you soon see your specialist and get some answers.

Hi opus88....It all started with the tail bone pain so bad that I thought I had broke or factured it while giving birth...after x rays and ultrasounds nothing was found wrong with it.  Six months into going to the dr for the same pain and after 4 sets of antibiotics for UTI's the pain was still there.  Finally, I get an MRI that showed the hurniation.  You are right, I don't have UTI pain or symptoms only to test positive every time.  And the constipation problem that is miserable sometimes.  I have read that the L5 and S1 hurniation could cause bowel and bladder dysfunctions, we will see what the specialist says.  Hopefully they will get me in to see him soon.  Still waiting for them to call me for my appt. date.

hi mommy...thats an interesting question you ask, I suffer from the same injury and the same symptoms and I also have the constipation problems but not the UTI's...interesting that u test positive yet don't have one?..you mean you just don't have the symptoms but the infection IS present?
I would be interesting in hearing what you specialist has to say abt this also goodluck.
