Lower back and leg muscle aches

About 4 weeks ago, I came down with severe cold/cough with voice loss that lasted about a week.  I was first prescribed Omnicef, then it was changed to Amoxycillin, and then Zpak during the course of 7 days since the symptoms were not getting better.  A couple of days before this started, I also suffered back-ache due to heavy lifting, which lasted about a week.

Since the antibiotics had minimal effect, I think I had some type of viral infection.

I've recovered from all of the above, but I'm suffering from stiffness and muscular aches and pains in the hip area and legs.  I have been trying to do stretching exercises but I get only minor temporary relief.  I'm also suffering from occasional minor muscle spasms in the thigh area, usually while sitting on a chair.

The problem is worse in the mornings.  It takes a lot of effort just to get off the bed, as my lower body is very stiff and the muscles are hurting.

The lower back pain is different from a normal back pain (spine related)... it seems to be from stiff and achy muscles.

I'm wondering if this is some post-viral thing... any help or advice I could get would be much appreciated.

Kittyluv1,

Thanks for responding.  Do you think this could be related to some type or enzyme imbalance?  I'll be seeing my doctor soon... what all should I ask him?

It is possible that you have had a muscle strain that has not fully recovered.  The muscle fibers or attached tendons are overstretched and will try and compensate resulting in intermittent spasm.  Your stretching exercises are providing temporary relief but it takes a concentrated exercise program to rehab the muscle.
It would be beneficial to make an appt with your primary physician for a medical evaluation and referral for physical therapy if indicated.  Your doctor will also be able to assess if there is a possibility of lumbar spine problems with x-rays as needed.
Viral infections that are severe could involve muscle pain and related symptoms such as occur with influenza.  Your doctor might want to do some blood tests to rule out any other possible immune disorder.
