Nerve pain to left thigh

Nerve pain to left thigh

I am a nurse. For several days I have been having numbness to my left outer thigh, but no pain.  When at work last night, I experienced a sharp pain to the outer left thigh which caused me to stop immediately when walking to a patient room.  This "lightening" type pain than ran through my left thigh happened 2 additional times at work then again after woke up this am.  It has concerned me and I have been researching various nerve problems, as I feel this is what it is.  The nerve I have found that sounds most like my problem is the lateral cutaneous nerve.  Could this be my problem?  If so, what would be the cause and treatment?       Thank you!
