Pain after L5-S1 Discectomy

Hi:

MRI  Revealed

L5-51 disc Herniation    ( Tried several other treatments which did not work )

So elected for surgery :

On may 26,2010 I had minimally invasive L5-S1 Discectomy on my right side.

I am feeling good other than the folowing pain symptoms :

1) When I go down to sit or lay or even tak a bigger walking step - Massive spasms in the lower back area

2) Now this seems weird, I has surgery on my right side, but have pain on the left side of my back ?

Has anyone had this, the second one bothers me the most? ANy how lond did you have the spasm for after the surgery ?

Thanks, any insight would be great.
Kevin

I'm not very familiar with these minimally invasive procedures, I had a traditional back surgery several years ago. And quite frankly, I am amazed by how fast people recover from these operations. I had muscle spasms for quite a while after surgery, your muscles are probably tight and guarded. Physical Therapy will help with this, are you going soon?

As far as the pain on the opposite side, that probably from your body compensating, P.T will help with that too.
