Spinabifida Occulta & Scoliosis

Good day,

I am a 19 year-old female and was diagnosed with spinabifida occulta and scoliosis when I was 17. My X-rays revealed that I have SBO at my 6th & 7th vertebrae (in my neck) and the scoliosis begins near the middle of my back down to the lumbar region. Before getting the X-rays though, I was constantly suffering from unexplained back spasm that often left me  on the floor in tears. When I began college the spasms became more severe, which often caused me to miss my most important classes. I went to a chiropractor to see if the pain can be managed, but it actually worsened; I also went to my GP and learned that I have a bulging disc. Is there anything I can do to atleast help me manage the pain?? Would physical therapy work? Anything? The pain has become extremely excrutiating and often debilitating. Any suggestion will be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I have no idea how to use this site, but what you are describing is identical to my pain.  I am 22, and have suffered from SEVERE back spasms since I was 10.  I am a senior in college now, and the only way I get through my classes is through heavy pain killers, which I hate.

I have SBO
Arthritis
They think I may have fibromyalgia, but nothing makes sense.

I have back spasms 24/7

Anyone with any information/insigh please email me at ***@****

I'm constantly researching and I have seen every doctor in the book.

Thank you.

Hi there!

Well, without a clinical evaluation it would be difficult to comment on the situation. SBO is unlikely to be the cause of the pain while the severity of the scoliosis and the disc bulge would need to be evaluated for, before considering a management plan. It would be best to discuss this with your treating orthopedician.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
