Stabbing pain in left shoulder blade area and chest area

I have a sharp stabbing pain in the left side of my chest and also in my left shoulder blade area . I am a 46 year old male. I took got a shot into the back yesterday but no relief , It is worse when i sit . When I lay down it is better .
This has been going on for about 3 weeks , one time i thought it was clearing up but then it came back.

It was suppose to be a Cortisone shot .

It could be so many things. The 'shot' you got, which you give no name to, and I won't guess at, probably hasn't had enough time to work...as in 3-7 days.
