Surgery and pain and vomiting

I just got out of the hospital on Wednesday.  I had a laminectomy.  They gave me Narco for pain.  I am still in pain and the Narco is making me sick.  I have not had a bowel movement. I called the pharmacy yesterday and they said I should have been taking the Narco with food although that was not on the label.  Any suggestions??

Although, I wouldn't know about the availabily within your area.

Morphine derivatives always have that side effect.
as others mentioned, eat fibers.

Buy some prune juice as well.
But do not drink it with an empty stomach !
All natural juices protect from nausea... Vomiting...
Good portion of cereal in the morning.
Wait an hour or so and then drink an non acidic natural juice.
Else, canned fruits and fresh banana.
Never leave a empty stomach...
It was good to me.

Ouareau.

You need some fiber in your diet. Drink extra fluids like water, tea, gatorade.  It is normal that your bowels have slowed down after fasting for surgery and having anasteshia(SP)?Also if you are losing the food before it gets to the intestines you won't need to POOP. Either get some Correctol or other stool softener WITH OUT A STIMULANT.  And Or eat some prunes, a banana, a bran muffin; just a little fiber, don't make yourself get crampy.  Also the fear that your surgery area will split open or hurt tends to make you fearful when you go to the bathroom. It may take 3 to 7 days to get things flowing. The hospital really should have told you that you could take the meds w/food and deffinetly the pharmacy should have had it on the bottle or instruction info sheet.  Also the hospital used to never let a person go home if they hadn't had a BM yet. Now a days they kick you out an hour after you wake up. Hope you feel better and do not let yourself get dehydrated or you'll be back in the hospital. If the pills still make you puke call your doctor for a different kind. Or see if you can just take advil.
