Tailbone Injury

Last late June, I got beat up by my ex boyfriend (who is now in jail because of that).  He kicked me in the tailbone. . . he had on steel toe boots.  The pain was excruciating.  I could not sit down... I could only lay down and I couldn't get up by myself for the first week.  I went to the doctor and they prescribed my some pain medicine and had me get x-rays done. X-rays came back fine.  Doctors said that a tailbone injury takes time to heal and that I'll be okay.  It's been over three months now and I still have pain.  It usually only hurts when I sit down.  If I go to the movies...or sit in a car for longer than 15 minutes... I HAVE to put my leg underneath me to where I'm not directly sitting on my tailbone and putting pressure on it...if that makes sense.  What I want to know is....  Does it sound like my tailbone is permanently damaged?  And I'm just not going to be able to sit normally ever again without having pain?

Have you gotten an mri of your lower back? That would tell a lot of what's going on in your tailbone region. I'm so glad to hear he's your EX!!!! Take care, and I hope you find some relief!!

No, I haven't.  Problem is that I don't have health insurance.  I already settled my ex paying all my medical bills which is restitution of up to $700.  Not sure if I could add on to that so I could get an MRI....

Thank you.  He has been my ex for a year and a half now...and he came back and did this.  Probably because he was thinking I wouldn't turn him in this time, but he was wrong.  :)

I feel more needs to be added on as there is much in that region that he could have messed up beyond just your tailbone and some things can take time to show up and require ongoing medical care and should have been included in the original settlement. It would be hard to put in an amount to settle on becuz there's no way of knowing exactly how much care your going to require and 700 dollars is NOTHING!!!!!

I wonder if there's any way to change the settlement then... because there is no way I can afford to have an MRI done.  The doctor did tell me after I had the x-rays that if I continue to have pain that I'll need an MRI.  I didn't know that some things could take time to show up in this case.,,  I just hope it's something that can be fixed.

Did you have someone from an abuse organization involved to advocate on your behalf? Or was this settled another way?

No... After everything happened, I went to sheriff department and wrote a report. They had warrant for his arrest and a no contact bond. He broke no contact bond three times (which I reported each time, and someone covered for him so he got away with it).  Anyway, I got subpoena for court and was just given an attorney there (the day of court) and judge told my ex that he has to pay for all my medical bills that I had...which was restitution of approx. $700.  That's it.  Oh, and he only gets jail for 60 days...they charged him for simple assault instead of aggravated. My attornery that I had did not agree with such little charges, but I would have had to start back at square 1 if I wanted to push case... I was stupid and settled for what he got.

It wouldn't hurt to go to CAPSA or something equivalent to that in your area to see what further assistance they could provide as this was due to domestic violence which the month of oct just happens to be domestic violence awareness month. Please be safe, and take care! *hugs*
