Tramadol question

I take tramadol for pain in my neck and back.  Since I started I have been constipated.  Does tramadol cause this?  I try to go without laxatives but when I get to the 6th day, I am so uncomfortable that I resort to the laxative.  Is this safe for me to do?  I have tried metamucil, fruit, stool softeners etc.  Nothing works except enema's or stimulant laxatives.

Tramadol contains opioid which causes constipation when consumed on a regular basis. You need to change to a non-opioid painkiller such as ultracet.
