Back Pain and Leg pain

Hi there ,

I've been having pain in my lower back and right leg (right leg the pain has been bad since august 2013 , while sneezing and coughing . Though Not much of pain in the back) . I just got an  MRI and in the report it says the following :
1. Lumberisation os S1 is seen
2. small marginal anterior osteophytes are seen at all lumber levels
3. No t2 STIR hyperintense focus is seen.
4. Diffuse disc bulge is seen at L5-S1 level indenting the theca and causing bilateral mild neural foraminal senosis. No significant spinal canal stenosis is seen . The disc is abutting the bilateral traversing s1 nerve root .
5. Diffuse disc bulge with right paracentral protrusion is seen at s1-2 level . indenting the theca and causing moderate right neural foraminal stenosis . The disc is imping the right traversing S2 nerve root . The spinal canal at this level measures 7.2mm .

Can you tell me if this is something very serious for an surgery ? or would time heal it ? Cause the pain in my right leg is alot while sneezing and coughing and i find it very hard to sit on sofas and any cahir "designed for comfort" . I am unable to touch my toes when i bend down (my hands reach only till my knees) . And I am unable to keep my right leg straight .

I've also had 4 kidney stones in the past month . Could a kidney stone cause this kind of back pain ?
Could you kindly advice me for the above problem ?

Regards,

Jackie

"Neural foraminal stenosis" means narrowing of the "window" or opening where the nerve exits the spine. This will pinch the nerve and cause pain to radiate down the leg. Treatment doesn't generally require surgery unless the pain is constant and completely unbearable. Treatment may include "epidural steroid injections" - where cortisone is injected into the area next to the nerve.  Sneezing and coughing puts pressure on the spinal cord and will cause a pulse of pain down the leg when the nerve is being pinched by a ruptured disc like this.

Jackie -- kidney stones can cause back pain, yes, but the pain you have in your right leg could be caused by the nerve impingement at L5-S2 as reported here.

You really need to consult with your doctor ASAP about these results to examine treatment options.
