Confused about what my ortho doc is saying

I was in a pretty sever auto accident almost 3 months ago.
I have had neck and severe back pain since.
I had a spinal fusion 8 years ago in the L-4 through S-1 region.
He keeps saying my pain does not add up w/my diagnosis.
I have had two MRI's one of my neck w/slight herniation of 1 disc.
MRI of my lumbar spine w/2 herniations in the L2-L3 region.
I am schedule for an MRI of my thoracic spine because that is where the severe pain is.
What do I have to do to convice my doc I am serious and honest about my pain.
All he is worried about is my taking the least amount of pain meds.
Also, I had a RNY 2 years ago and cannot take any NSAIDS
He originally had me taking 7.5 hydrocodone every 4-6 hours and I have been meticulous about following
the directions.
Now he has cut me back to every 6-8 hours and my pain keeps "running ahead of me" and I cannot catch up to it.
I am tired of having to go to the ER when my pain gets out of control.
I know that the world is full of drug seekers right now, but how do I convey the seriousness of this to him and get
the help I need.
I cannot stand for longer than 15 minutes w/o white hot sharp sharp pain enveloping my back.
I am frustrated w/doctors all together and am tired of paying the price for others bad choices.
Any suggestions.

Trish

I think most doctors worry more about CYA than their patients. I would ask the ortho to refer me to a Pain Management Specialist. They usually have a better understanding of chronic pain and will work with you to get you on the meds or treatments you need to help you with your pain. Good luck.
