I don't know about the tightness in the chest, but all your other symptoms seem to jive with the cervical spine diagnosis, especially if these disks are pressing out onto your spinal cord.  The muscles in that area are all connected in some way and some of the deeper muscles may be tightening as a result of the disk irritation and causing your chest tightness.  I think I would get that checked out by your regular doctor just to be safe.  Otherwise, your symptoms are pretty much textbook of a c-spine injury.

Were you ever diagnosed for GERD or other esophogal condition related to the chest tightness?
Also, did you have the arm and head symptoms at the same time of the chest problems or after the MRI results?

what in the MRI report led your neuro surgeon to tell you you must have surgery?

Hi,
i too have had the tight chest pains i have been to ER twice thinking i was having somesort of heart attack.  I have been for some massage therapy. I was told it was my muscles getting tighter due to the way a was holding myself due to the headaches.  I also get the sharp shooting pains in my head they realy scare me sometimes!  I agree with what rattyrandi has said. Both my chest muscles are realy tight even know as i write this message. I have got GERD which they have said could be some of the problem. My massage guy told me to get some magnesium sulphate to put in my bath.
You need about 1- 1/2 pints to a full bath and lay with your sore muscles in the water for about 1 hour. I know it sounds a long time but it does help for a few days. If you look on ebay this guy sells it on there.  Let me know how you get on. I do know how you feel its not good. Also my massage guy gave me a face massage and released all my tense muscles in my jaw and face this realy helped. Do you clench your teeth together with out realising i do, try to relax your jaw try to let it hand like a swing and not all tensed up.
Take care,
