Surgery Expectation

I am having a C4-7 decompression and spinal fusion and want to know what to expect. I want to be positive but have to admit that I am scared. What is it like after the surgery ? I have been told that I may not be ablt to swallow or eat solid food for a few days. What about the pain. Can anyone share there experience with me.

depends on your tolerance to pain..I had c5-7 fusion 2/11..was out of bed that night wanting solid food..sore throat is the most common..lasts a few days..i played golf 6 weeks post op and I'm 57.  This surgery is actually quite routine (though  not to us)
you will be fine..cervical is the most easily treated..good luck

I'm just getting to 3 months after mine and I feel pretty good, except I realize half of my problem was in my back, but the fusion got rid of alot of pain.  I ate solid food afterwords, but you have to be careful cause you can choke on it.  It only lasts for a few days.  There's really not much pain especially if he gives you vicodin and muscle relaxers.  Good Luck
