you have a torn disc. i ruptured (tore) mine 2 years ago...same exact place as you. no conservative methods worked. however, time did heal. im not 100%, nor will i ever be...(once a bad back, always a bad back).......however, i am 80% better. as long as i watch what i do, and dont do any heavy lifting, excessive bending, twisting, pushing and pulling, after 2 years, i finally have pain free days. if i overdo it, or do something that i shouldnt have done, i suffer for it...mostly back pain...but if i move the wrong way while doing things, it can and will cause the leg pain to come back....and it can last anywhere between a few hours...up to a week. im not a believer in surgery, b/c its not guaranteed to work...and its ONLY to alleviate the leg pain...NOT the back pain. surgery can also cause scar tissue...which leads to more problems. when i first got hurt..i would have BEGGED for surgery.....but now...im so glad that i had the time to allow it to heal naturally.
