Is there any relief from siatica pain

I have severe pain from siatica,I hope someone can guide me to some kind of relief.I have seen a few doctors already and still get no real relief, If anyone suffers the same as me,what can I do to get some relief, it runs down my right leg down to my ankle. I find myself limping more and more, also I find that by leaning forward, it gives me a little relief. When I shop with my wife I`m arched over the shopping cart, using it for support, I truley would appreicate any advice on this matter!

Dear karen

I`m only 50 years old,and my biggest fear is that I won`t be able to work again,I have never missed a day of work since Iwas seventeen, The last two years of my life have been miserable,Because the second surgery was caused by my job, It feels like I have been hung out to dry!  I KEEP APPLYING for work ,but the moment I go for an interveiw I can usually tell that I wont be hired, because of the limp I now have. It seems like I have more worst days than good and that is whats starting to scare me. Thanks for your concern. Jody

I have had trouble for several years with L4 and L5 disc problems. I always have the same pain you are describing. Nobody knows that kind of ankle pain unless they have felt it! When I first had problems, anti-inflamatory drugs on a continuous basis and rounds of steroids during a flare up took care of it. Then, when that didn't work, and the buldging disc was pressing a nerve, a lumbar epidural worked for about 3 yrs. The last time, a disc ruptured and I had bone fragments laying on nerves. Surgery was required to remove the bone fragments. It really wasn't a big deal. I have been told I have degenerative disc disease and will at some point probably need a fusion. That is the scary surgery!

I HAVE HAD 2 LOTS OF SURGERY FOR L4/L5/AND S1 DISC PROBLEMS...but i am still in pain!!! i had to have the operations because if i did not the disc would have cut in to the nerve and i would have been paralised..my last operation was last nov 07 and since then i have been an awfull pain with teribal back ache and burning leg pain..i am waitint for a referal to see about a spinal cord stimulator ..as i am taking large amounts of oxycodone and that only takes the edge of the pain...have you tried gabapentin/pregabalin or lyrica? they are drugs for nerve pain {i used to be on them but due to weight gain and pitting odeama i had to come off them}...i also use a high powered TENS unit that along with the drugs helps a bit ..but i am no where near the man i was!! i was a fit man walking 5 mil a day with my dog and i used to swim 1 ml a day.now at 42 i am housebound all i can do is sit in my recliner and take pain killers!!..i live in the uk manchester our health service is good but slow ..so i just have to wait..if i could afford to go privatley i would because live at the moment is very hard ..hope you are not as bad as me..feel free to email me if you want to ..tony.***@****

Yes I belive that I have lower disc problems,L4and L5 that is bulging out. My biggest fear is having to get surgery,I already had two hip replacements, both on the same leg. The first surgery was needed, but when I went back to work, instead of going back to my orginal position, I was put on the dock and unloading trucks,HOW STUPID,STUPID ! A second surgery was required after only 8 months from my first surgery, since than I have suffered pain in my opposite leg. Thanks for letting me vent,
