serious pain in the upper back and neck

Two weeks ago I woke up with a "crick" in my neck or so I thought. By the following evening, I was in serious pain. I could not sleep. I was having shoot pains up the back of my neck and the pain had moved to my shoulders. It felt like I had an infection. This lasted for about 3 days, then the pain moved across my back into my other shoulder blade. I thought that I had a pinched nerve and did not see a doctor. I am still having pain between my shoulders, but it has subsided some. Yesterday, my husband woke up with a "crick" and now he is experiencing the same symptoms I had. What could this be?

I had the same problem a week ago. I felt a stiff neck, then upper back pain, one day I could not even get dressed. I went to the Er that night and they gave me volume and naproxen. Some relief but I found out that knocks you out, at work unfortunately! Anyway at least I did not fired only written up. Next day my arm hut to move then now it is the other side of my back but on the side like the back ribs or something. I have no clue! I just want to feel better soon! Let me know what ya'll find out.

Hi Pooh.
I have been having the exact same problem. I went to the doctor. He gave me muscle relaxers and pain meds. Didn't help. Here it is 3 weeks later and the pain has diminished somewhat, but not enough. My range of motion is only about 3 inches to either side....makes driving very interesting. Have you found anything that has provided relief? I tried the meds, I've tried heating pad, I've tried sports creams...what else is there?
