CAN IMPLANON CAUSE HOT FLASHES & NIGHT SWEATS?

I've been on Implanon for about 2 1/2 months almost 3 now...For the past week I have been having hot flashes and night sweats alot..I have a hard time sleeping at night because of it..I woke up last night with my shirt wet all over and it was 28 degrees outside and i had no heat running in my room either! It doesnt say anything about these being side effects of the implanon though...

Hmmm, ive never had anything like that before.

Id check with your doctor or the family planning nurse and ask if hot flushes can be a side effect of it.

Mind you i had terrible pain in my arm this morning where the implant is...not directly on it just near it so i dunno if the two is related lol.

Sorry thats not really related i just thought id throw it in as an unusual side effect

Ive had mine almost 4 months...and i hope your sweats arnt related to it cause like you said its a shame to get it taken out.

Luckily i didnt have to pay for mine...contraceptiopn is free on the NHS....if it was private i would have had to pay £81!

So yeah, i dunno how much it is in America but im sure its roughly the same so ill keep my fingers crossed for you that it isnt the implant causing the problems

Good luck x

I have been on the Implanon around 3 months and I have also suffered with this when the temperature isn't even hot. I woke up last night to a hug from my boyfriend but he had to get off as I was so sweaty!! It was him that mentioned it might be the implant so it makes sense that this is why.

yes i am in the same boat as everyone here, Im 22 with 3 kids, and on my 2nd implanon ive had my hot sweats for about a month and a half and the implanon its self for about 3 months, but the first one didnt cause sweating...weird!! my back feels so hot and yuk that i will do my level best to get around the house discretely, topless. I find just doing the dishes and making the beds in the morning is enough to make me shower, i wake up wringing and stay that way for a few hours in the morning, regardless of temperature. I have thought about seeing my doc who inserted it, but pretty sure what the result will be after reading these. Im thinking (but could be wrong)  that my hormones are confused with menopausing. have also had some very weird bleeding patterns this time, but those are tollerable, compared to the sweating. tis quite gross and imbarrising!

wow same thing here bad hot flashes and sweats when not even hot temp outside! It's getting really annoying actually also itches really bad at times where the implanon is...i think ima do what you gals are doing and get this checked out. Because the more of us that complain about this the more attention it'll get and hopefully in the near future they will put this as a side effect so future implanon users can be aware of this annoying side effect!

I had to look up whether it was just me or not.  I have had the implanon for about 3 months now also, and have been sweating ever since.  Horrible at night the most, waking up with my pillow case drenched and my shirt all wet.  Also during the day, i barely move around and just feel the sweat starting.  I don't know how they could miss this side effect, but clearly it's not just something individually wrong with each of us if we are all having the same problem.

Wow - it's not just me!  I've been having hot flashes for a few months now (I've had the implanon for 4 months) and am going crazy!  Several times a day I just rip my shirt off, I cut my hair short one night during a super sweat, and my hubby bought me a couple of those personal fans (way nice). Today I found and bought a box of Playtex Sport body wipes - they're meant to use after the gym and I'm gonna hope they make me feel less gross. The doc that put it in says the hot flashes are not related, but I think it's new enough that we're all guinea pigs - give it a few years and the manufacturer will list hot flashes and excessive sweating as common side effects of the implanon. I'm going to give it another month or two and if the sweating and bleeding don't stop, I'll have to get it removed.

I've had the implanon for a lil over 2 years now. Haven't had night sweats, but started having hot folashes shortly after getting it, and still dealing with them, also nauseated a lot, and bad acne. Aside from not having to take a pill and not getting prego, the best thing about it is that I have had a period in a year and a half! Regardless, I can't wait to have it removed. Also, the first six months I was extremely depressed! Didn't realize it was the implanon, but I believe my body had a hard getting used to it.

I've had mine 2 1/2 years and my girlfriend says she's freezing at night and when she tries to cuddle me I'm really sweaty. Lately I've been having hot flashes and I've been on my period for a month and a half. I think I'm going to get mine taken out early, after a while headaches get more frequent and painful, my mood swings get worse and I gain weight so much quicker.

Just saw ur  post. I've had to implant for 2 months. I get extreme sweating so much so I find it embarrassing. I thought it was just me but when I think about it, it only started when the implant was put in. I also get itching round the area plus it sometimes aches. I already have a thyroid problem which is being managed so cast put the sweating down to that.

Nexplanon replaced Implanon in Oct 2010. If you have had "implanon" fitted since then, chances are you are actually talking about nexplanon. They are both effectively the same device containing the same drug, but information on implanon may be out of date.
If you go to nexplanon's website or look at the patient information leaflet for nexplanon, you will see "hot flushes" listed as a "common" side effect, affecting 1 in 10, to 1 in 100 patients. A full list of potential side effects associated with the drug, and how common they are, can be found in the same place. The device can be easily removed if you experience unacceptable side effects. Hope this helps.
