Mirena IUD - Insertion Smelly Discharge

Hello ladies,

I had the Mirena IUD inserted about a week ago. I chose Mirena because I have been having excruciating periods with lots of heavy clots and lower back pain. I am looking for some relief with my period and hope to get some, but my problem so far is...ever since I got Mirena put in I have been leaking smelly  light red or light brownish liquid. I feel dirty, smell fishy, and having to constantly wear a liner, wipe up, bathe and change panties several times a day. This has cause a slight halt in my sex life because I don't ever feel clean enough, nor think that I smell fresh enough to have sex with my husband like normal. I have a Dr appointment Nov. 23, 2011 - I hope that he can explain and this smelly discomfort will stop soon. Any advice?

I had mirena originally implanted in 2008. Five years later, I had it removed and replaced this past February. Everything went fine, I had virtually no bleeding following the removal/insertion. My checkup in march went fine and I had a clean pap as well in march. Then a little over a week ago I noticed I was spotting (I never had a period with the first mirena). A day or two later the spottig turned into a clear red to tinted smelly discharge. I do not know how to describe the smell but I could smell it trough my clothes throughout the day. My boyfriend noticed during sex as well After about 5 days (and reading similar forums) I told myself last Friday that I would call my doc on Monday. But this weekend the discharge stopped (spotting stopped too) and the smell is gone! Yay! Still might call my doc to see why...but based on all the forums I think this is fairly common. Just thought I'd give my experience because I didn't see anything from anyone who had mirena removed and replaced in one visit.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Mirena is notorious for causing pelvic inflammatory disease. Pelvic inflammatory disease is an infection of the uterus, fallopian tubes or ovaries. It occurs when bacteria move upward from a woman's vagina or cervix to her uterus or fallopian tubes.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing

Hey sweety! Don't it just suck to be a damn woman sometimes!!! It sounds like you have a bacterial infection and you have to get some medicine called metronitizile, at least I think that's how you spell it.... good luck....Oh yeah.....GET THAT THING TAKEN OUT OR YOU WILL REGRET IT FOR THE REST OF YOUR NORMAL LIFE
