Not sure how to know I'm pregnant because I am on Depo

I have been on depo provera for some time now. I recently had unprotected sex. I am worried about the possibility of pregnancy. But with the depo I no longer have my periods so I don't know when would be the best time to take a pregnancy test if I feel I may be pregnant. Can someone give me advice? Thanks

i was on depo from 14 to 23.I had a period the first month that lasted 11 days and then never got one again the whole time i was on it.It took about 7 months for period to come back and i should mention my doctor made me get off it. when my period did come back it was 7 day period heavy and then be off for 3 to 5 days and it would start again. i went to another doctor he put me on birth control pills he gave me 3 months worth and wrote a script for a years worth i took what he gave me and never got the script filled and right away my periods went to being regular and were lighter then normal even after i ran out of pills. about 8 months later i got pregnant and had a beautiful girl. After  giving birth i took one dose of depo it stop my period for the time and about 2 months after i didnt get anymore  cause i couldnt afford it. Right before my daughter turned 2 like less then a month i found out i was pregnant again. Had another little girl. same thing after giving birth got on it for one dose. then couldnt afford it well 3 years later i decided to get back on it and that was a year ago. I love the depo shot. The only complaint i have is this time i seem to be gaining weight alot. I never  did in the past but i am 30 years old so i figured age has little to do with it. but not all depo stories are bad i have 2 little girls that r 6 and 3 1/2 .everyone is different.

i was on the shot for ten years then when i got off the shot it took me 2 years and 10 months to get prego with my first child....he is almost 16 months old and i have a daughter almost 3 months old, i got back on the depo after i had my daughter, but im pretty sure im prego again!! ha!! i would make sure if you are prego, if you are on the shot, and if it is negative at first then wait before you get your next one and have a blood test done......if you are that means god wanted it to happen!!

Hi, my name is Marie. I hav been on depo since August 9th. I have taken only one shot. I had my period a week before my shot. When I got my shot I was told to wait 2 weeks to have unprotected sex. But I only waited 5 days. Me n my bf had unprotected sex 5 days after my depo shot. He didn't *** in me but he did *** on my stomach. I'm just wondering if anybody has ever gotten pregnant on depo provera. I have taken 2 tests jus last week n they were both negative. Should I wait and take another? Or should I make a appt and get a blood test done? Thanx so much.

I am very concerned that I may be pregnant. I got my last shot 6/22/10, but I was a couple weeks late so they gave me a pregnency test (which was negitive) before giving me the shot again. I had intercourse 6/14/10 and apparently wasn't on birthcontrol. I failed to tell them this at the time of the injection. I'm urinating an awful lot, have minor headaches which are uncommon for me, my appitite has increased a lot, and I have a white discharge too. I didn't find out I was pregnant with my daughter till i was 8 weeks along I noticed the mettallic taste in my mouth and went in to get tested, I wasn't on birthcontrol then though. I have been on the depo since 8/08, I had tried the IUD first and couldn't stand the cramping it caused. After having blood clots in my lungs caused by Yaz my Dr. informed me that the depo or the IUD was my only choice (ofcourse condoms or abstinence also) I had been abstinent for 2 months before 6/14, and didn't even realize i was late for my shot. What do you think? I really have no money at the moment to waste on a trip to the dr. or a home test. So unless it's nessisary I would rather not do either. i have also been under a LOAD of stress! Besides my worries of being pregnant.

although there are lots of horror stories out there - there is hope.  i was on depo for 3 yrs...I stopped taking depo b/c i got engaged and my fiance and i were talking about having children and i'd heard the horror stories about women not being able to get pregnant for years after depo.  I went on the pill - which i am pretty bad at (can never remember - hence the reason for depo to begin with)...and ended up getting pregnant 10 months later.  I'm now 37w 3d with a healthy little girl!  So don't give up hope!!!

Hello,
My name is Holly. I am 20 years old. I am planning on going off the pill (i have been on it for 3 years now) in November. I hope to get pregnant right away so I can give the news to my in-laws and my parents as an xmas gift. Do people usually have problems conceiving the first few months they go off the pill? How does it work? I also want to lose weight before I have a baby. As it is I am not comfortable in my skin. If anyone has suggestions or would like to chat, please email me at butterfly_baybee2005***@**** I will respond to everyone!
Also, will you only conceive on certain days of the month? I can use as much information as I can

i do know there is no way to reverse it....i am living its rath now....i stated it wrong....sorry. taking progesterone for my friend halped to carry her pregnancy till 32 weeks because the depo had an adverse effect on her. she did deliver 1 week early and had a low-birth weight baby....but i was so glad to see him healthy. especially after losing my babies on the drug.

i am sorry if i cause any confusion.....depo is a very touchy subject with me because i have seen so many women suffer its side effects during, after or both.....sometimes i get too emotional. plus i am gettin ready for af i think....or pg....i feel hormonal....LOL!

Here is an excellent article on Depo-Provera:

http://www.fwhc.org/birth-control/bcdepo.htm

Lots of links and resources towards the end.

Kimmie--there is no way to "reverse" Depo-Provera, unfortunately.  Women who do conceive on it may be more likely to deliver prematurely.  Depo-Provera is a long acting form of medroxyprogesterone, which IS the generic name for Provera.  So taking Provera won't reverse Depo-Provera.

i was depo for 7 yrs...been off for 18 mos and still CANNOT get pg. this stuff really shuts down the plumbing. i did get pg on depo back in 1993 after my 1st shot and m/c cuz the depo killed my babies (twin girls). i had another friend of mine get pg on her first shot of depo and have a boy.

so if this in not your 1st or 2nd shot, i would assume you have nothing to worry about as far as pregnancy is concerned. but i would think twice about staying on it if u ever want kids....this stuff really messes with ones reproduction. if you r truely scared u might be pg on depo, see your dr immediately if you want to keep this pregnancy....you might have to take provera to reverse it and not m/c. depo is extremely dangerous to a growing baby......i know, i have lived it.

good luck and you r in my thoughts....kimmie

If you have been on Depo and have not missed any shots, you shouldn't have concerns about pregnancy beyond the small risk associated with any form of birth control.

So I guess I'm confused as to why you would be worried.  If you went off Depo and havent got your period back yet, take a test about 2-3 weeks after unprotected sex.  There may be enough HCG in your system to be detected by then.

But if you're on Depo and havent missed any, it is very unlikely you would be pregnant.
