Hi Doctor,
Since my period has not come even after a 16 day delay with the morning after pill my doctor asked me to take a UPT at home and bring her the results. The test was negative again. She told me there is no need to do a blood test as this is fairly conclusive. She then gave me Devril 10mg twice a day for 5 days and asked me to wait 7 days post that for periods to come. If the periods still did not come she said we would do another pregnancy test. I am concerned, will Devril harm my baby in case I am still pregnant. Pls do advice.
Thanks
Dharini.
Thank you so much. It is 14 days of delayed periods and I am really worried. I will keep you posted.
Hi,
Morning after pill can cause irregular bleeding or spotting after taking it. It contains progesterone and once the high dose you take in pill form as emergency contraceptive begins to rapidly decrease your body reacts by shedding the uterine lining it had prepared for pregnancy and you experience irregular bleeding. It can either delay your periods or prepone them. Emergency contraceptive pill contains significantly higher doses of hormones. Since your pregnancy tests are negative hormonal imbalances could be the cause of your delayed periods. This is merely an advice and not a substitute for clinical examination. Consult a gynecologist. I sincerely hope it helps. Keep me posted.
Best luck and regards!
