Wrong start for Birth Control

Wrong start for Birth Control

Hi

I was just prescribed Alesse and started taking in on the day I though I was was starting my period, (starting on day one of my cycle). It turns out it was just a bit of spotting, not my period. That was five days ago and I've continued to stay on the pills, but my period still hasn't started. I haven't been terribly regular the last year. Last month my period started on the 14th and when I spotted on the 12th this month, I though that was fine. I also don't usually spot, so I didn't doubt it. Today is now the 16th and my period still hasn't come. I did take a pregnancy test two days ago and it was negative.

So.... have I terribly screwed up things? Should my period still come this month? When will I be protected with the pill as far as contraception? Should I stop taking the pills this month (I've only taken 5 and am willing to throw this pack away), let my period come and then start on a new pack of pills? What should I do!?!?!?

Thank you!

u can either start the pill on the day your cycle starts or the first sunday after your cycle starts. i would consult with your dr. personally i would stop the pill, wait  a month and then start over. you should use contraception for the first month after starting the pill
