2nd Mirena Insertion

Hi everyone, new to the forum.  I had my 2nd Mirena Insertion Thursday 16th July 2015.  They removed the first one and put my new one in the same day.  I had finished my period a couple of days before removal/insertion.  However when 2nd was inserted I started bleeding.  When i got home, I got cramping and more bleeding (which is to be expected).  1 week on Im still bleeding/spotting.  My periods were all regulated and I didnt think that there would be as much spotting as there has been.  Has this happened to anyone else and if so how long did it last for? Thanks.

Yes, it was due to be changed in September so they decided last week it could be done.  Thanks for your help, i will persevere with it as i had no problems with my last one, I have to take warfarin so the Mirena is a godsend. :)  Hopefully it wont last 2 much longer

I'm assuming the reason you had the first one removed because your 5 years was up, correct? 8n that case, the amount of hormones that you've been exposed to over the last 5 years was slowly declining as the mirena releases less and less until there's not much left once it's removed. You've just gotten a fresh one implanted which contains the full amount of hormones and which will begin releasing a higher level of hormones in the beginning since it's new. For that reason, it's not surprising that you're having spotting issues at the beginning again. It may have regulated your periods with the last IUD but I'm sure it didnt happen overnight and you likely had a similar experience when you implanted the first one.

It's going to cause spotting, tthat's pretty much a well known fact after first getting it put in. As for how long the spotting will last? Who knows. Everyone is different. Some women only have spotting for a couple of weeks, some have it a couple of months, some have it all the time. There's no way to know how long it will last. It doesn't really matter how long the spotting lasted the first time you put in the mirena either cause you're not the same person hormonally as you were then. Your hormones change all the time and it might be different this time. It's hard to know what will happen.
