sphenoid wing meningioma

Hi,  I was recently diagnosed with a 2.4x1.3x1.0cm left sphenoid wing meningioma found by MRI, accidentally as I was being scanned for headaches which turned out to be left sphenoid sinus infection.  I was told by surgeon and ENT that was coincidence.  I am trying to work out best course of action for  treatment.  I have no visual disturbance, only 2 monster headaches in past 6 months, ear pressure from inside my head, the feeling that there is something in my nasal passage between the bottom of nasal passage and back of throat, and some facial tingling and nose twitching.  Oh and no menses for past 2 months (age 51 and never happened before).  I have been scoped by ENT and told everything is all clear.  The neuro doctors have said that the tumor couldn't be causing any symptoms because of it's location.  I think there are one to many conindences for it not to be connected.  Trying to find a second opinion.  Surgeon leans toward surgery, radiology oncologist leans towards radiation and both want to wait 6 months.  I looked at my MRI and found 2 dural tails and a fuzzy spot near the bone.  Would you be able to look at MRI?  Also, my mother had a Rathke's Pouch cyst 35 years ago and  tells me that she was also told that her tumor couldn't possibly be causing her symptoms because of it's location.  Her symptoms were much more varied and severe than any of mine.
Thanks.

I am experiencing your pain and symptoms after brain surgery and radiation, not before!     I went to Green Bay Aurora, for surgery than to  Milwaukee and Madison for 2nd & 3rd opinions. Everyone says my tumor is not causing my pain. However I did not see Dr Froedert in Milwaukee, should I schedule with him?  any advice, please read my questions too.
Thank you

I can not find his name as a Neurosurgeon at Mayo's either, but he showed up on 1/2!  Surgery went fine, about 7 hours.  I spent about 18 hrs in ICU and then about 24 hours in a regular room - and then I went home!!!  Absolutely amazing.  My daughter was with us, she is from Waukesha; and she discovered that a friend of a friend had brain surgery at Froedert that had to be redone.  It was redone by Dr VanGompel at Mayo's on or about 1/3-1/4.  He hasn't been there for a very long time, perhaps 6 months, maybe thats why he isn't listed.  He is probably in his mid 30's!  If you're interested in more detail - contact me at *********** at yahoo.com

My first Meningioma was removed 12/1984, and it has regrown since they couldn't get it all the first time.  The MRI that I had in October shows it very clearly but the radiologist's report says that it is on the other side and on the outside of the brain.  Then I went to a Neurologist in Oshkosh and he said to come back in 6 months.  I'm going under the knife Jan 2 at Mayo.

I am so impressed with Mayo Clinic that I would see anyone there.  My current Neurosurgeon is Dr. VanGompel.  Go there for a second opinion.  Go there for your surgery.

Your mom was very very very much mis-treated as she probably did or does need treatment. Pituitary disorders are very under-diagnosed and under-treated - it was way worse before and persists today. Your mom needs a neuro-endo at a pituitary center in order to get the testing she needs.

I am only a pituitary patient myself, and I can only guess that my surgery was through the sphenoid sinus so depending on where your lesion sits, you may have a chance that something is hitting in or putting pressure on the CSF on the pituitary. Did you get a copy of the MRI and the report? Was the MRI dynamic?

Call the expert here and get him to look at your films before you take action - you need another opinion. And you may want to take mom along.

I went to Froedert mainly because I work there.  In January I have an appointment in Madison to see another neurosurgeon.  Who are you seeing at Mayo?  I'm not from the area so am not familiar with who to see.  Thanks!

I'm in Oshkosh, also.  Did you go to Aurora?  Make an appointment with Mayo Clinic!
