6mm painful lump in lymph node?

Hello,

I am concerned about a 6mm lump found above my nipple towards my chest.  I thought it was the top of my implant, but it is painful.  I had a mammogram and an ultrasound.  I was told it might be my lymph node (possibly infected).  I am scheduled for a biopsy, but I am very worried.  Breast cancer runs in my family....I am 48.  I'm scared!

So my biopsy rsults show invasive ductal cancer.  I guess I knew it was probably cancer based on the way the doctor who did the biopsy kept telling me to consider booking a surgeon now.  I am glad he did this, because I was able to prepare for the worst.

I am considering a double masectomy with reconstruction at the same time.  Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Oh yes, the lump is not on the lymph node, it is on top of a muscle.

So I had my biopsy done.  The Dr. that did the biopsy said based on the irregular shape and the fact that it can be felt, he suggested I book a surgeon to remove it.  He said if the results turn out to be benign, I can cancel the surgeon.

This doesn't sound very promising.  Anyone else have a similar situation?

Thanks for your response.  I was so convinced that it was complications from my implants, that it never crossed my mind that there was an acutal lump.  I was caught off guard and really didn't research anything before going in for my mammo.  I didn't know there was a score.  I keep positive by thinking about my 90 year old auntie - she had breast cancer, had a masectomy and is still alive and kicking!  Her breast cancer was many, many moons ago, so I do know people can and do survive.

Do you know what your BIRAD score was on your mammogram? I'm so sorry you're having this worry. Please keep in mind that most biopsies come back benign. I was in your shoes in Dec 2007 so I totally understand. Please let us know what your findings are. And please try to relax. Best wishes.
