Breast Cancer in Men

My boyfriend is 38, in excellent health, runs, very trim, etc.  He found a lump under his left nipple right around Christmas.  He saw his Dr. in January and was treated with a round of antibiotics.  There was no change to the lump.  He went to his Dr. today and the Dr. is sending him for a mammogram next week and also made an appt with the surgeon for 2/12.  I'm afraid it's cancer.  If it isn't, what else could it be? I'm so scared.

You may care to look at the UK's breastcancer care site - it is a brilliant support forum for all bc patients. If you click on Chat Forums on the Home page, then scroll down, you will see a thread for Men with Breast Cancer. You can post there and I am sure one of the gentlemen will endeavour to answer your questions. The URL is:www.breastcancercare.co.uk.
I would just urge caution in using only alternative and/or complementary therapies,as they are not a substitute for allopathic medical diagnosis and treatment, but great for de-stressing. I had surgeries, chemo and rads, but still had aromatherapy treatment, reflexology and acupuncture, which helped me to deal with the shock of a cancer diagnosis, but I doubt I still be here if I didn't have the conventional treatment.
If you do consider the alternative route, I would suggest you read the late John Diamond's book: "Snake Oil and other Preoccupations" - probably out of print now but you could possibly get a second hand copy through Amazon. It is a brilliant first hand account of the alternative medical scene in England, which he unequivocally exposed as charlatans. Kind of focuses the mind when you are grappling at straws. Well it did for me.
Hope everything turns out okay.
Liz.
