Infected lump

I had a core biopsy done. The doctor had trouble locating my lump on an ultrasound but when he finally did. He told me that the lump looked weird and infected. It had grown from 1.4cm to 1.8cm within 2 weeks. I'm still waiting on my results but I would like to know what is meant by "weird and infected"? I'm 28 yrs old

You welcome!
Since I am not a medical professional, it's hard for me to interpret Pathology Descriptive Terminologies used in your report.The important thing is that no malignant cells were detected in the cyst.If you want to understand the details mentioned in your report,you should talk to your doctor to refer you to Breast Surgeon who should be able to explain everything you need to know and also you could discuss your concern about this cyst in your breast and that you wish to have it removed so you can have peace of mind.

Thanks for your help. My doctor would not explain anything from the biopsy. All she told me was its benign and gave me a copy of the results.

The Fine needle aspiration states;
The scantly cellular aspirated shows two fragments of ductal cells in a background devoid of cystic change.
Scant glandular breast tissue

Core needle biopsy states;
Pale yellow tissue 11mm in length
Benign stromal and glandular breast tissue
Myoepithelial cells are prominent
No evidence of malignancy

I understand no cancer cells located but the lump is still there.

Hi again,
Glad to know that your biopsy report stated benign findings.I guess that the radiologist recommended to monitor the cyst to check for any changes that might occur..If you are concerned that this complex cyst could become cancerous,which would be rare,but not impossible,consider discussing further with your doctor (who has your detailed Ultrasound and biopsy report),if the complete removal of the cyst would be an option so you can stop worrying about it and also avoid repeated testing.I am sure your doctor would be your best source of information regarding this matter.
Take care...

The lump turned out to be a complex cyst.
Biopsy results came back benign.
I don't know if I should remove it or not. What are the chances of it becoming cancerous?

Hi,
I am not sure what your radiologist means by "weird" other than describing this infected lump not being perfectly round or oval .Since a biopsy was recommended,it's because it is not possible for the radiologist and for anyone of us, to know exactly what this lump represents unless the tissues extracted is analyzed.by a pathologist..
I know that waiting for the results is very hard..But hang in there and  lets hope that your report will state benign findings.
Please let us know,by using this same thread,about your results.
All the best and good luck!
