Current Research/New Treatments

I have posted this question earlier, however, japdip did not appear knowledgeable in this area to give me an adequate answer.  I requested that japdip not reply to this and send it to a qualified doctor.

I have Invasive Lobular Carcinoma and Metastatic Carcinoma.  I just had a mastectomy with the removal of 10 lymph nodes.  Ten of ten nodes came back cancerous.  I will be doing chemo, radiation and estrogen blockers for 5 years.

My cancer is slow metabolizing and does not metabolize suger well, therefore, the PET/cat Scan did not show ALL the cancer EVEN THOUGH it was there.  There aren't a lot of blood vessels with this cancer, therefore, they don't retain the iron and the cancer is not visible on an MRI EVEN THOUGH it is there.  I have also had a torso CAT Scan.  ALL of the cancer does not show up on these scans EVEN THOUGH it is there.

I would like to know:

1.  Are there any better ways (new research, etc) to track my progress since the above tests have not shown ALL of my cancer EVEN THOUGH it is there?

2.  Are these any new methods of treatment or research that shows promise with my types of cancers?

japdip please do not respond to this but refer it to a more knowledgeable doctor.  I fee japdip needed to be more caring in answers.

I do not believe you made it clear about the different Forums.  IF I had known that I would have sent the second request there.  I am new to this website and don't know all the ins and outs of navigating it.  My neice who did breast cancer research at Duke and is married to a doctor live in Ohio, and she referred me to this site in hopes that I could get some medical information.

I have had excellent conversations with my oncologist but wanted to see if there was somthing out there that was on the cutting edge and very new research.

I appreciate your information about the different Forums.

I agree with japdip that you may want to yourself refer your question to a more knowledgeable doctor.  It's really not her job to do this for you. None of us here are MD's. I hope you have a better experience on the 'Expert Forum'.

I believe I advised you to post on the "Expert" Forum .... not the Community Forums. I personally will not answer any question of this type over the internet ... You need to discuss this with a local Oncologist who has access to all the proper records. I you click on "Forums" at the top of the page and select from the "EXPERT FORUM" list your post will be read by a Cleveland Clinic employed Physician ...   Thank you
