DCIS high grade with necrosis

Hi, everything I read seems to be aimed at Low grade DCIS, is the treatment the same if it has high grade with necrosis.  Is the prognosis the same?  At what rate does a tumour grow if it is high grade versus low grade - is it double?  What is the cure percentage? for both? or is there no cure? just control?

Thank you

Hi Dr Bhumika,

I wanted to let you know what has happened so far with regard to treatment that I have received - I had a lumpectomy nine days ago - I think the area was 5mm - dont know what the margins were - I have to go back in a month for the results.  After the lumpectomy my nipple has become exceptionally sore, I felt a lump there and also where they had sewn me up inside it all went really hard.

I think I will start radiotherapy in a few weeks.  Do you think that Lumpectomy/radiation is enough for High Grade cancer with necrosis?

If I have recurrences will they always be cancers that are High Grade?

Thank you

Hi,

High grade DCIS or DCIS with necrosis is known to be more aggressive or has greater chences of recurrence in the furture.

You will need to discuss the treatment options with your doctor - Lumpectomy or mastectomy - depending on extent and size of tumour, radiation therapy - especially in cases with high grade or associated necrosis; hormone therapy - if the tumour is hormone receptor positive.

Do let us know what your doctor advises and keep us posted on how you are doing.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.
