Does the end result of reconstruction get rid of some numbness

I had a bi-lat mastectomy on April 7th, 2009.  I'm going through reconstruction with the extenders.  My underarm and arm are so numb I can't even feel myself shave.  It is very difficult to function some days, it is so bothersome.  When I have the extenders out and the Saline implants in will some of this go away?  The extenders are so uncomfortable.

Expanders don't fit a womans body like the permanent implants will. They get oddly shaped during the expansion process and can cause lots of discomfort. And they can cause you to giggle at the shapes they take on. Some of the numbness will remain permanent and some will likely get better after your expanders are removed and implants placed. Implants will feel much softer and will "fall" into place.

The good news is you can get the underarms waxed and won't feel it! :)

Most of the numbness due to nerve damage during mastectomy will be lifelong. You will become accustomed to it eventually; I did and the shaving thing was odd at first. So is the back of my arm and some areas on my chest.     Regards .....
