I recently had a prophylactic bi-lateral mastectomy and I am currently 7 weeks post-op. My PS took the drains out at 3 weeks 4 days but had to re-insert them two days later because I developed seromas in both breast. I started running a low grade temperature 11 days ago and my right drain is draining between 80 and 96 MLs. He saw me this morning (Thursday) but he didn't take my temperature which I had taken at home and it was 100.6, didn't take my blood pressure, he pretty much looked at my breast and my drain sites and said they didn't look infected. He told me to make an appointment with my GP because he thinks I have a bug. He made an appointment for next Thursday which I will be 7 weeks 4 days post-op and told me they absolutely had to come out at 8 weeks no matter how much they were draining. My sister contracted hep C after her bi-lateral mastectomy and I don't think it showed up on her breast or drain sites or with a visual inspection. He was also her PS but she is a nurse and her doctor's caught that there was something wrong with her. I’m currently draining 80 to 96 MLS on the right drain but the left one had slowed down but was extremely sore, it drained 138 MLs on Saturday. I suspected I had a seroma. My question is could I be rejecting the expanders or drains and if so what will they do, I currently have 500cc expander’s in or how do you stop seromas from forming??
Thanks,
Maggie
